About Us

We, the Trasnos, are a group of friends who one day thought it was possible to connect Malpica with Fisterra via a path along the sea.

THE DISCOVERY

On December 7, 2012, six Trasnos and two dogs left Malpica with one goal: to connect Malpica with Fisterra along the sea. That was our only premise: to connect everything along the sea and give meaning to this route along the Costa da Morte, which we knew was going to be spectacular.

It wasn’t easy, but after several weekends, we managed to connect it, arriving in Fisterra on January 26 via existing trails and other paths that were structuring the entire Costa da Morte.

We had pioneered a great route, and throughout the trip, we kept asking ourselves the same question: should we tell everyone or keep it a secret? We were so amazed by what we felt and what we experienced that we decided to tell everyone. Since that day, many other tramps have followed us, turning this route into a collaborative project where everyone has a place and where there is only one objective: that O Camiño dos Faros exists and that many people walk it, with the utmost respect for nature.

But to do that, we needed to improve the route; on the first trip, we had left many sections unclosed. So we set about a second review trip, improving some sections and creating new ones.

Once this was done, we put together a call via Facebook to join us for the first stage between Malpica and Niñóns. And on Sunday, April 28th, at 9:30 a.m., 23 trasnos and the dogs, Xia, Xes, and Brisa, began the first stage of this Camiño dos Faros in Malpica.

These first 23 trasnos were the key. A diverse group of people who quickly grasped what we wanted to do and how. We couldn’t have found better company to accomplish our goal. These first trasnos dogs adopted others in the following stages… and you already know the rest of the story: hundreds and hundreds of trasnos dogs followed us in these first two editions, making a reality of what we had been very clear about from the beginning: that O Camiño dos Faros had a great future.

We, the exploring trasnos, blazed a trail. And we risked a lot in these two editions: any problem, accident, or unforeseen event that might have occurred was bound to cause us problems. But we had the luck of the trasno… not only did nothing bad happen, but among all the trasnos, we managed to form a family that, from first to last, helped us make this a success.

THE O CAMIÑO DOS FAROS ASSOCIATION IS BORN

On December 21, 2013, we arrived in Fisterra at the end of the second edition. And we arrived with a clear idea: we wanted to continue being trasnos… but if we wanted O Camiño dos Faros to have a future and not take risks every day, we couldn’t remain outside the system.

That day at dinner, the O Camiño dos Faros Association was born, with a single goal: that O Camiño dos Faros exists and survives over time, just as the trasnos designed it, and that many people do so with the utmost respect for nature.

Other complementary goals to this main one are:

  • To promote this route in all areas and at all levels as a natural and sustainable destination.
  • To raise awareness and defend this stretch of the Costa da Morte so that it remains free from any speculation and that we and future generations can enjoy it as it is now.
  • To inspire, encourage, and support any public or business initiative that fulfills the association’s primary purpose.
  • To do all this with a philosophy of low cost, maximum efficiency, and maximum transparency.

Independent project of the Association

From December 7, 2013, to December 7, 2022, PROJECT and ASSOCIATION Camiño dos Faros were one and the same. From that moment on, they became two completely independent entities, each with its own operating method.
