Casa de Trillo, steeped in history, is located in Santa Mariña, a small village in the A Coruña municipality of Muxía that still preserves the flavor of tradition.
At Casa de Trillo, we want to open the door to the essence of A Costa da Morte and the Galician rural world. We understand that time is precious, and our goal is to transform our guests’ days of rest into experiences of authenticity, peace, and tranquility, free from stress and noise, and in direct contact with nature and our people. This is achieved through our personal attention, our facilities, and the routes we offer. This is the Traveler’s Home.
However, we must warn you that if you don’t like the countryside, this is not the place for you; if you’re looking for the comforts of the big city, this is not the place for you; and if you prefer an extractor hood instead of a fireplace, Casa de Trillo is definitely not the place for you.
At Costa da Morte, in addition to enjoying fine cuisine, you can explore its rich tangible and intangible heritage and a magical world of ancient legends related to its status as the End of the World. Your imagination will escape among the dolmens, forts, castles, rivers, the fire of a lareira, or the sand of the sea, and you will walk the paths that once brought thousands of pilgrims to discover the place where the sun died every day and the known world ended, and where Hermes embarked the souls of the dead so they could reach the Island of Eternal Happiness.
We will delight our intellect with an insight into the history of Galicia through the illustrious figures who came from this house and the ancient documents preserved there, which will give us an insight into what Galician society was like over the last five centuries.
A stay at the house also offers the opportunity to learn about the craftsmanship of the Costa da Morte, both through the use of these products in decoration and through the exhibition and sale of them.

HISTORY CASA DE TRILLO
The Trillo House of Santa Mariña preserves regional documents from the Monastery of Moraime that prove its existence at least since 1558, when the center was known as the Casal de Santamarina.
We know that this house was the birthplace of a figure in Spanish history, Don Benito de Agar y Leis, baptized in the chapel of Santa Mariña de Prado on November 4, 1722, who emigrated to the New Kingdom of Granada (Colombia) as a valet to Viceroy José Alfonso Pizarro. His son, better known than his father, Pedro Agar y Bustillo, was an illustrious sailor and one of the key figures in Spanish and Galician politics of the time. He rose to the position of President of the Regency, joined the Navy in 1780, participated in several naval operations in the Americas, trained at the Academy of Marine Guards in Ferrol, and was elected as a deputy to the Cortes of Cádiz.
However, the high point of his career came when he was appointed President of the Regency of Spain and the Indies in 1810, a position he resumed three years later. Later, the political events of the time led to his exile in Betanzos. However, due to the popular outcry demanding the return to power of the prestigious liberal leader, in 1820 he assumed political leadership and the captaincy general of the Kingdom of Galicia.
Currently, the Counts of Taboada are the representatives of the Agar de Santa Mariña lineage. Agar Street, which ends at La Real, is still preserved in the city of A Coruña, next to the building that Pedro Agar built at the end of the 18th century.
This house also produced a famous cleric, Don José Díaz Arosa, known as the Wise Man of Villastose. Besides being a highly cultured man, many visited him for healing of their ailments.
In the heart of rural Galicia, the chapel dedicated to this saint, the mill, the fountains, the cross, and the paths that run through it all form part of a rich landscape where it’s easy to witness agricultural, livestock, and forestry activities in every corner.
